Nvidia has received a ton of free press lately, and largely due to the fact that their Dual Core Tegra 2 SoC (Solution on Chip) is set to power the latest superphones of today. Their dual-core Tegra 2 mobile processor is set to blow the lid off even the most impressive of mobile benchmarks. However, if you’ve been paying attention you’ll know that there was a leak yesterday that tipped us off to a Tegra 2 3D processor clocked up to 1.2GHz that would give mobile devices with 3D screens the power they need to run. Now, yet another leak has come to the forefront that presumably comes from the same slide as yesterday that gives us a bit of dirt on the Tegra 3 processor.
This is where things get good. The Tegra 3 processor is expected to be announced during this year’s Mobile World Congress in Barcelona and in the past we haven’t heard much. According to this leak, the Tegra 3 processor is quad-core and will be clocked up to 1.5GHz (which is blazing fast compared to today’s mobile standards). It’s powerful and capable enough to power things like a Blu-ray player. While this may not be very practical for a mobile phone, it could perhaps be practical for a netbook or laptop computer which would enjoy a significant battery life boost thanks to the Tegra 3 processor.
While this may seem legit, like all other rumors, take it with a grain of salt until anything official is made known.
Either way, Nvidia is rapidly expanding their credibility amongst both investors, manufacturers and consumers these days. Granted how competitive this space is, we wouldn’t doubt in the Tegra 3 being a Quadcore beast!
